I guess it must be the season for it.

Hotel California remains one of the enduring albums of all time.

It seems that my teenage years are being destroyed by all the icons dying in their 60's.
I hope that death doesn't "take it to the limit" and get rid of everybody that I got a real enjoyment from.
The age has gone down from 69 to 67.

I too love Hotel California. I remember Noel Edmonds playing a track every day just before it first came out in the shops, and being hooked by it.

So the Eagles don't score as highly on UKC as David Bowie?

I read the headline and all I could think was "another one?!"

It may not be as critically acclaimed as his Eagles output, but "The Heat is on" is an 80s gem. One of those tunes I love driving to.

Looks like this is going to be a busy year.

They're rated pretty highly in our house. And only 67... tragic.

I suspect it's because Bowie produced music in several styles & was influential in changing the direction of popular music, especially in the 1970s. Whereas the Eagles were a very good country rock band but not innovative in the same way.

And maybe because Bowie was British & the Eagles were from the USA ?

I saw them live at the O2 only last year. They did say that tour could be their last, but I don't suppose they imagined this would happen.

Also, you'd have put money on Joe Walsh being the first to go!

Probably not but I can't help thinking that Bowie is assembling a passable backing group.

They said the same in Birmingham in 2006 at their Farewell Tour (number one)!

> Also, you'd have put money on Joe Walsh being the first to go!

My thoughts exactly!

Hotel California is one of my all time top 10 favourite songs. Very sad and I'm 67 which doesn't help.

I think "The Last Resort" has to be one of my all time favourite songs:

I had my very first slow dance (remember them?) to The Last Resort back in 79 or 80 I guess. Thanks for the memory!!
