I'm looking to take a small group of students out to Fontainebleau in September, possibly 10 kids and 2 adults, does anybody know of any good bunkhouse/gite style accommodation for those numbers in the area? We'd be hiring some sort of vehicles so a short drive would be fine.

It's in Recloses and has 15 beds so that should do the trick. Don't know whether they speak English though as my friend speaks French, I wouldn't count on it

Look for one on the gites de France essonne site and search for a gites in maisse, west of milly la foret. There is a big give there perfect for your needs. It is worth remembering that many gites only advertise a certain number but actually cater for more

Did you mean this one https://www.facebook.com/gitemaisse/timeline ? Hadn't thought of this because I have no idea how many people it caters for. Admittedly it's a bit far from the big areas (20-30mn from the Trois pignons or Apremont I think?), and sadly September (the 20th to be precise) is the beginning of hunting season in the Essonne district, so you'd want to stay away from the climbing areas there. On the plus side this gîte is run by Olivier Lebreton, who knows a thing or two about climbing.

If you rent out the whole place you could also consider Gîte Arbonne (http://www.gitearbonne.com/Accueil-Gite-Arbonne ), which is probably the most central accommodation in the entire forest. Again it's run by climbers.
