In reply to Bluebird:

Cobra MicroTalk something seems to be the "standard" when it comes to PRM (?) walkie talkies...

Just keep in mind, that the frequencies and channels don't match between Euro models and the ones from Japan/US..

In reply to Bluebird:

3 miles is quite ambitious for pmr, we use cobra's at work as safety radios and they have a limited range unless you have a good line of sight. If you want an extra that will work reasonably well most of the time then they're cheap and suitable for a bit of fun when out walking. If you are looking for something reliable and with a few miles range you're probably looking at stumping up for a licence.

If you're going for pmr my advice would be don't spend more than £20-30 per radio and get a waterproof cover, replace them when they pack up. You pay another hundred for the same thing in a fancy waterproof package with the same range and technology.
