Is the road public from the A85 to the lodge, or if not, are there any issues with using it to get as far as the lodge

If I am thinking of the right place, there is public parking up that road, but not at the very end. You can drive to the forestry commission sign at 298 059 and there is space for a few cars there.

You can drive up as far as the railway bridge just West of it before there are 'no unauthorised vehicles beyond this point' signs.

I was there yesterday, walking Beinn Bhalgairean and Meall nan Gabhar; there's some work going on, so you might have to park a bit nearer the road to stay out of the way.

Great. My plan for Sunday. How long a walk for you? What's the snow like?

Cheers. Yeah, that sounds like it.

It took me a while (about 6.5 hours, I think) but I'm not very fit just now, and the snow was a bit difficult higher up - crusty on top, soft underneath, and I was falling through it most of the time! It's mostly only a few inches deep, though.

My map's quite old, and doesn't show the forestry tracks correctly. I cut down through the clear-felled area on the North side of Beinn Bhalgairean, hit the wrong track, and ended up well West of where I meant to be, with some wood and bog-bashing to get back. The track shown on the link below is much more detailed, and might even be mostly correct!

It's probably easiest to walk up the track to here

then nip up each hill from there, return there, and head back the same way, rather than to try to make a circuit.

The East flank of Beinn Bhalgairean has been partially clear-felled, and it's easy to get up through that at the North end, near the circle on the link above - see here:

Have fun!

P.S. I parked about here:

The 'no unauthorised vehicles beyond this point' signs are here:
http://www.gaelicplacenames.org/maps/map.html?g=NN210264

and there were diggers and other vehicles parked up in the cleared area between those points.

Cheers. All very useful. I may not do it this weekend but will sometime this year. Don't know if I can be arsed driving that far. May just stick south of Tyndrum / Crianlarich.
