Just purchased a new pair of mammut serenity 8.7mm single/double/twin ropes....sexy I've carefully flaked them out etc but they're kinking ever so slightly and it's really effing annoying!!!! Anyone have any tips on getting rid of these kinks? Cheers!

The same approach as to sorting out the springy cord on a landline phone usually works: let it hang and spin. Anywhere you can drop the ends from or a reasonable height you can pull them through a krab at? Each time an end gets to hang free some twists will be removed. The longer the length to just above the floor the the greater the number of twists/kinks can be removed with each iteration. Pulling and dropping moves the kinks towards those ends.

Passing it through your hands a few times from end to end will do the same but there are fewer opportunities for the twists to make their way out so it takes more passes

They will disappear as you use it.

If you cant wait for sexy un-kinked ropes then you can run the full length of each rope through your hands several times, or if you have a ATC style belay device attach it to something like a willing friend or tree then thread the rope through as if belaying then pull the whole length of the rope through.

Dragging the full length of rope across a field helps (dog shit free, obviously)

In reply to Pete Houghton:

Old 'phones used to have a long coiled cord connecting the bit you spoke into to the box on the table or wall with the magic in, like this:

http://www.samhallas.co.uk/collection/bits_trimphone.htm

This cord had two purposes, it stopped you nicking the easily portable small end that couldn't be screwed down, and it was designed to bounce the sound around as it travelled from the magic box to your ear so that all the sharp edges got knocked off giving a very muffled quality to the sound, thus rendering it obvious you were talking to someone a long way away so that you wouldn't waste time searching around the room to find where the person you were talking to was hiding.

There endeth today's history lesson.

Running them through a krab also works well - say the first clip of an indoor route, or a quickdraw hanging from a door handle.
