So I saw this post from petzl not long ago -

Why on earth would anybody bother in the first place? Surely unless it has been done by another major manufacturer and in large numbers, then nobody could possibly stand to make any monetary gain?

When you retire safety kit it's good practice to destroy it so that no-one can subsequently un-retire it. With soft goods like harnesses it's considered enough to cut one or more of the pieces of webbing as no-one would be stupid enough to then use it. Sadly if looks as if some pillock of an ebay seller thought he could make a quick buck by sowing them back together again and selling them on. Luckily it was found before someone died although it would have been interesting to see what he was charged with if the worst had happened.
