Maybe the belayer needs to take his job a bit more seriously?

Given the amount of gear that appears to have ripped, I doubt there was much he could really do.

Bloody scary tho!

The fall that Nico Favresse takes from Nightmayer on the Cromlech is pretty frightening, nearly the length of the crag! The footage is in the Onsight film I think. Also the one he takes on Mt. Asgard, again a total monster!

I've not got my guidebook at hand so can't say for sure which one it is.

If you look at the video in high definition you can see that a lot of rope suddenly appears to fly into view from over the top edge of the stack, the gear that gave way must have been right on top and the gear that eventually held him was about where he fell from. I suspect the pieces of gear that came out were the cams that you can see dangling down his right midriff at about 8 seconds in.

Sickening. Thank goodness he seems unscathed.

Oh yeah. It looks like maybe he is resting on a piece of gear above and it pops out.

So do you think he was top roping? I assumed he was leading. Anyway, the amazing thing is he appears to stop lower than his belayer so if he's leading its a fall factor of just over 1 on a single pitch route which takes some doing!
How he manages to miss all those shelves above where he stopped is incredible but pure good fortune, a couple of feet to the side and it would have been curtains.

No, since there was gear at roughly the height he was but apparently nothing between that and the piece on top that blew. I wonder if he had already led it and was cleaning gear on the way down, or maybe he had come back down to try out a move again. I'm not convinced by either explanation since I think the gear on top consisted of cams, and if he wasn't intending to go back up that would mean abandoning them.
