The most exciting and awe-inspiring event of the year Flying Solo: The Alex Honnold Tour arrives in North Wales on Friday 27th May, hosted at Beacon Climbing Centre in Caernarfon.

Only a few years ago, Alex Honnold was little known beyond a small circle of hardcore American climbers. Today, at the age of thirty, he is probably the most famous adventure athlete in the world, having pushed free soloing – the most extreme and dangerous form of climbing – far beyond the limits of what anyone thought was possible.

The results of climbing this way are breathtaking, but the stakes are ultimate: if you fall, you die. Honnold’s extraordinary life, and his idiosyncratic worldview, have much to teach us about risk, reward, and the ability to maintain a singular focus, even in the face of extreme danger.

“So many people condemn me for risk taking, but I find it sort of hypocritical because everybody takes risks. Even the absence of activity could be viewed as a risk. If you sit on the sofa for your entire life, you’re running a higher risk of getting heart disease and cancer.”

The event will be hosted by the gregarious Niall Grimes, with book signings, Q&A sessions, raffle and spot prizes, and Alex will be joined on-stage by the BMC ambassador team: including Steve McClure, Hazel Findlay, Shauna Coxsey, James McHaffie and Calum Muskett.

This definitive event is brought to you by the BMC with thanks to The North Face for their support with prizes.
