I've been away from the scene, in fact all mountain sport for many years, now the family is growing up and need to share it with them.

* I used to jump over the wall in llanberis pass and bivvy, pay the woman 50p in the morning.
* Also drive up toward coniston's old man and bivvy at end of road, leaving car there for days climbing.
* Drive and leave car in wasdale all weekend just before wasdale head.

Basically we got away with bivvying anywhere and camping up high 20 years ago
Can you still do all this stuff?

In reply to VisionSet:

It really isn't hard to find places to bivvy.

Bivvying is fine as long as you don't take the piss.
Frowned upon a little in the peak so stay well of the beaten track
Enjoy

Heard the lady no longer comes round but that's second hand info. Or join the CC and you'll have access to huts all round the country.

Ah good news, I feared my halcyon days had rapidly disappearing freedoms.
Up in the hills I'm not so surprised, but I am surprised it's as easy near roads, especially parking.
Hasn't there been an explosion of charging for parking and along with that the ubiquitous no overnight camping stipulations. I remember tussles with officialdom even back in the day...
