It's near Chitterne, just under Salisbury Plain, grid reference ST 996 446 (OS Explorer sheet 143). Who knew!

(can't find an online link but if you look at the printed map, it's there)

Maybe an example of a Trap Street? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trap_street
In reply to Pursued by a bear:

Its definitely there on the 1:25k if you go into Bing maps and choose the OS map option, but not at 1:50k or street name levels.

Surprisingly few responses if you google 'chitterne gobbledygook' though.

Strange!

From squirmelia.livejournal.com/489551.html:

"We walked through Chitterne looking for a place called Gobbledygook that was marked on the OS map. We couldn’t find anything that said "Gobbledygook" on it, but a resident explained to us that the area used to be called that."

(Personally, I now suspect a stealth viral marketing campaign by the Chitterne Chamber of Commerce...)

In reply to andyjohnson0:

Cheers Andy (and others). If the OS are keen to include names that places used to be called, I suspect they've got a deal of writing to do. And it's somehow fitting that I mis-spelled 'gobbledygook' in the title of this thread; I may have had my unintentional irony switch in the 'on' position this morning.
