What does your day involve today? If you're at work, what are you doing? If you're not at work, how are you spending your day?

Hopefully exchanging contracts on houses. Been a horrific three months of seeming in activity from our buyer, pressure from the upward chain to get a move on or they pull out with complete insecurity about whether it will happen or not. Now could be left with one week before completion to sort out moving, which isn't easy with 3 young kids and a dog!

Got a day off with my missus. Sorted out daughter's birthday (14th!) for next week, went for coffee at my brother's restaurant and have just eaten half a watermelon. Heading off to a nearby NT gardens, then going running, walking the hound round the woods and probably watch a film tonight.

Looking at windmill aerartion for wastewater treatment as a way to reduce costs and environmental impact, drafting a technology evaluation process and reviewing a presentation on CFD of aerartion lanes. Only cos I'm waiting for a contractor to get back to me with a quote for some waterproofing and tarmacking and an about to switch projects.

It's not normally this interesting, I'm just seem to be on top of things (something's probably wrong...)

Up at 6 to deliver my daughter to college for her A level so as to save her from public transport stress, then to the office for a series of strategy meetings and now commiserating with son over disappointing undergraduate chemistry exam. I've only been procrastinating on this last point for oh, eighteen months now...

I'm at work in an office in a suburb of Manchester. Writing software to extract information from MS Word documents and store it in a SQL Server database. Which is about as exciting as it sounds...

The 98% of my brain that isn't interested in the above is thinking about my plans for a backpacking trip to the far north of Scotland at the end of the month. This is slowing me down somewhat.

Doing child things with daughter, writing client notes and doing relevant research and preparation, half a day of therapy with clients who are obliged to end up happier, being an ear to all who feel the need to offload, cooking and eating, chasing daughter to bed, then introducing myself to some wine chilling in the fridge. Oh, and sulking about the weather forecast as tomorrow is my climbing day which now seems to be shared with the rain faeries.

Currently winding down at work as I've handed my notice in, so not much. Arrived in the office late, had coffee/chat with a few people that are interested in taking my job, had a nice lunch with another colleague which included a short walk around Regents Park, answered a few emails, dialed in to a few calls, looked at a few routes that might be good for a 10 day trip to the Alps in June, then later I will run 6 miles to Brixton and catch the train the rest of the way home.

At work in Philadelphia (for one week only). Walked into work with a friend, couple of meetings to sort out some issues we are having a loading dataset, a pair programming session, then some beers with colleagues after work.

I am probably being more sociable than I usually am because I am working with people who I only physically see once or twice a year, although I work with them remotely all the time so I am making an effort to socialise as well as work.

I'm cramming ridiculously hard for a stats exam tomorrow. I've spent all of my time up till now revising for my pure maths exams (Topology, Groups, Rings and Fields) which I care about because I enjoy the modules and so I chose to do them. The exams for my pure maths modules have finished and I'm left with stats. The stats module was compulsary and I haven't particularly enjoyed it and have done the bare minimum of work required for me to get by. Though this has come back to bite me now....

Been revising almost non stop since 8pm last night!

Speaking of cramming I should probably get back to work....

That actually sounds rather interesting. What do you have to take in to account? As a cyclist, I've seen examples of great junction infrastructure and awful to frankly dangerous infrastructure. Do bicycles get much of a look in in the design standards? Or is it entirely up to the designers or commissioners?

In reply to munro90:

Depends on the context really. This is a really busy dual carriageway with an off-carriageway cycle route, so other than upgrading a pedestrian crossing to a toucan, there's not really much to encourage cyclists to cycle on the carriageway; no advanced stop lines or anything.

If it was a slower road, in a city centre for example, then there would be plenty of cycle infrastructure going in. Most designers (and councils) are quite keen on providing for cyclists, and as I cycle to work every day, I certainly am.

In reply to ex0: no, sorry, that some seriously impermeable highway network though!
