I always think that the North West of Englands coast does not live up to its inland beauty. I know of some lovely spots Arnside and near the Chemical works in Ulverston (do not laugh until you have been). The last bank holiday we spent in Dumfries in Galloway which has a lovely coastline. This left me wondering if the West and Northern coast of Cumbria has any gems I have missed. Can anyone give any suggestions please?

ps I have walked along the coast from Whitehaven to St Bees.

Sandscale Haws, near Barrow-in-Furness. Fantastic beach, dunes, wildlife.

Perhaps you've already been, but if not then among the boulders and on the platforms below St Bees Crag is pretty special, specially as the sum goes down. Nice beach at Allonby.
