I'm looking to upgrade the Rock Shox XC28 coil fork on my Cube 29er for something a bit better, preferably an air fork. Straight steerer, 29" wheel, 9mm QR, 100 to 120mm travel.

It's only a cheap bike and I don't ride hard enough to need something beefy or expensive. Budget is £150. Looking at a Rock Shox Recon Silver TK from Chain Reaction. Thoughts and suggestions welcome, also any offers of 2nd hand forks considered.

The recon is a good fork but for £150 you should easily get a good set of reba's of a well known auction site. The rebas are light, smooth, easy to service and ideal for 29inch cross country style duties.

Thanks for the tip, I'll keep an eye out. Had a brief look but nearly all have a tapered steerer tube or a 15mm maxle whereas I need a straight steerer and a 9mm QR *sigh*

Recon an excellent fork, really adjustable. Go for it.

Can you change the front hub axle? Often they are easily interchangable and on a 29er it does make a big difference?

I would also buy a reba!
