I'm looking for cheap accommodation for myself and the other half in Cortina d'Ampezzo during August to use a base for a few days via ferratta in the area. Has anyone been/able to recommend somewhere to stay that won't break the bank? Cheers.

No, tho it depends on the strength of your bank. Even camping costs a prince's ransom. We're going out in a week & are doing stealthy van-camping (overnight stays in the chairlift carparks are/were acceptable, or mountain pass laybys) around Corvara. Collets could accommodate the 3 of us self-catering for a week for only a little over a £1000!!

We stayed here http://www.campingolympiacortina.it/it/ which is a bit out of Cortina itself but is an easy walk. You can buy a 10x bus ticket for going in and out too.
At least two via ferratas are accessible from the campsite - Strobel & Bovero.

Connections to other areas for further adventures.

Have a look on AirBnB! We found somewhere near Cortina that was pretty cheap on there!

Get 12 of you and it's £30 a night, Cortina style!

Second recommend for Camping Olympia. Fresh pizza oven on site. Easy access to some of the best VF in the area.
