I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations of low cost CAD software.

I've grown up using 2D drawings but have been out of Engineering for 10 years. I now have a Camper/Work van conversion project in consideration. I'd like to have a simple 3D program to work out a few of the interfaces.

Thanks for your help.

SolidWorks has a free 2d version called DraftSight that has the same interface as the old 2d autoCAD you might be used to.

My son used Google sketchup for his A level product design. 3d but very basic. Also free.

I agree with Landy, SketchUp will be perfect for it and it's really easy to use. http://www.sketchup.com/

Try Onshape. Runs in the cloud in your browser and created by the folks that first invented Solidworks.
