Hey guys. I used to be really into my hiking, but have got out of form recently and trying to pick up the mountain/hill fitness again. Has anyone any recommendations in the Manchester/north west area for a few challenging hikes to build the fitness up again? Thanks

Anything around the Chew Valley is good
Plenty to do around Todmorden (e.g. walk up to Stoodley Pike) and Hebden Bridge
Bog trotting around Wessenden Moor and Black Hill
Plenty of easy options in this book - http://www.cicerone.co.uk/product/detail.cfm/book/446/title/walks-in-lancas...
This book is excellent and should be on everyone's shelf if they live near the Pennines - http://www.westyorkshiremoors.co.uk/

I also recommend that book.

When I lived in Manchester my favourite local walk was Hayfield - Kinder Reservoir - Williams Clough - Kinder Downfall - follow the Downfall stream to its source - Kinder summit - Woolpacks - Edale Cross - South Head - Mount Famine - Hayfield. (If you don't fancy the navigational challenge of finding the summit, you can just follow the main path from the Downfall to Edale Cross.)
