Killer caterpillars at Swanage

Watch out for the above at Swanage - a couple of my mates have come back from there recently and look like burns victims - I think it's the hair from them that does the stuff - so watch out there are billions of them

If so it would be worrying if they have arrived in the uk, as they are normally found in the south of Europe.

Or more likely our own home grown oak processional caterpillars?

Are these guys on the Cornish coast as well? It might explain my dog getting a really nasty reaction on his muzzle a few years ago

Calamine lotion is the stuff to use to sooth the rash from these blighters.

Reporting for the spanish pine variants: it seems likely that reaction may also come from contact with airborne material - hairs / web / saliva. Two cases (one witnessed directly) where people walked through inhabited forest - only calmed with cortisone cream.
