Useful use for 10m of half rope?

Shelve this with 'i once dropped a 30kn boa, shall I retire it' in the box of 'questions you never thought needed asking'.

For whatever reason, I've ended up with a pair of half ropes with one 50 and one 60.

At first I thought 'who cares, I'll just use them like that' but after hours of wasted energy (and a slightly autistic need for balance) I sort of want to chop 10m off the end of the longer one.

So what could I use it for? Should I? Should I save it until I get a sheath rub in the end and lop the 10 off then? Is this the world's least interesting question?

In before 'use it to tie up Mrs necromancer' in kinky sex play'

I've found it a pain using a 60 and 70 at the same time.
Chop it and make a rope lanyard?
Or a carpet?

In reply to neuromancer:

Rope lanyard suggestion is sensible.

Also ok as abseil tat.
In reply to neuromancer:

or use the 10 m for self belaying when going up on to house roofs, etc.

Short roping beginners on steep ground.
Paint it green, stick on googly eyes and call the police about an escaped snake.
Add rings and use to build an in situ belays at a suitable forested crag.
Soak in potassium nitrate and use as a fuse for your next firework display.
Top rope for 5m garage climbing wall.
Cow flail.

I find stuff like that really useful for emergency short roping.

Which end do you plan to chop? The near end (from here) or the far end? Wouldn't it better to chop 5m off each end? What would you do with 2 x 5m of rope? Or chop 10m in the middle, maybe?

Lasso horses
Tie up boats
Hang up stuff in the garage
Rope swing for the kids
Tow rope
Tug of war
Wind around cat scratching pole (its what I did with my off cut - she loves it)
BDSM
EBay (money for old rope)

or, at a pinch, scrambling confidence rope

In reply to neuromancer:

Cut it in half to give you two 5m half ropes. Then use them for grit.

After all this, I'm becoming more and more tempted (read: persuaded by a friend) to just save the 60 and pair it with a skinner 60 half (a 7.9 or something) for the alps. 8.5 for moving together e.t.c.

Which sort of makes me a massive cock-tease.

Also I'm getting annoyed (spectrum!) about the idea of having the rope middle marker... not in the middle.

I particularly like the idea of making a dog lead out of it. Fig 8, rethread into choker, fig 8 for handle.

Put up with it until it rubs.

10m makes a nice tow rope.

Use it to replace some abseil stations or fixed threads that are past their best

In reply to neuromancer:

Even if made jokingly, the suggestion to cut 5m from either end is sensible. Most of the damage by standard wear and tear (not rockfall, which can strike anywhere) is going to be concentrated near the ends. They will always be tied in knots, and run through every single point of protection.

The ends still can be used as abseil tat or dog leads.

Use the 10m to replace some of the old ab tat around the country. Take a knife and cut away old and/or damaged tat and replace. It will give you a warm glow to know you are helping the climbing community.

In reply to neuromancer:

Cut 5m from the 60m and tie it onto the 50m. 2x 55m ropes. Job done.
