Land owner rights in Scotland

Legal question... Was out exploring a crag in SW Scotland and was approached by the land owner who demanded I leave his land and told me I was not allowed to climb on it. He said he wasn't happy with someone roaming over his land and also the legal implications of an accident. He was very pleasant about it and not rude but I was just wondering where climbing access stands under right to roam as I assumed I had a right to climb anywhere if I wasn't disturbing farming practises.
