Just strap a bouldering mat to your back in case you fall off and you'll be fine.

You mean in case the rope breaks, don't you?

A good supply of ham sandwiches and a flask of tea reaps dividends.

1. Set aside a free evening.
2. Pour yourself a large beer.
3. Using the UKC Search facility, insert 'Hornli' and select 'Forums'.
4. Take a judiciously selective approach to the 288 threads there - not all of them relate to the Matterhorn. The collective experience and sagacity of the UKC community, a treasury of mountain knowledge beyond your wildest dreams (perhaps), will almost certainly supply all the information you need and more.
5. But if after that you have more specific questions, just ask.
6. Have fun. Good luck.

I think you forgot the GoPro on a selfie stick.

You'd probably have to eat a lot of them...

It's been a while for me; if you'd like pm me and I'll help where I can on how my month was spent out there.

My father dragged my mom and I up it - he'd recollect it perfectly; however, he isn't around to ask. So; it's down to my hazy recollection!

We spent 2 weeks acclimatising with various hikes and climbs based from hotels in interlaken, scheidegg, first and zermatt. Used the trains a lot! For the hornili we used the huts and a guide as my mom totally freaks on heights - it wasn't too bad. Started out in the dark; our ascent was either tail end of August or early September.

I loved it. Very proud moment; none of us were affected by any altitude sickness but we spent time preparing.

Go for it - but do consider your safety. A guide didn't cost all that much (it reassured my mom greatly her baby (me at around 18) and man) would be safe should we attempt to get a bit ahead of ourselves!

Edit: missed parenthesis.
