I've been a presiding officer at elections for 20 years, and nobody has ever asked why pencils are used until today. Turns out there is a conspiracy theory that MI5 are rigging the ballot.

As a casual observation, those insisting on using a pen didn't appear to be swimming at the top of the gene pool...

When i turned up to vote i had a choice of three pencils or two biros in the booth. I actually used my quiver and ink well but thats beside the point. Tin foil mad hatters.

The question they havent answered is why the f*ck MI5 would piss around trying to erase the mark and not just swap in a replacement ballot. Or, as someone sort of put it on twitter, the next bond movie is going to be bloody boring.
