Planning on using this hut to access the Grand Combin at some point in the last week of July. Does anyone know how busy it's likely to be? I'm wondering whether I need to book in advance (and therefore commit myself to unknown weather conditions) or chance it by phoning them a day ahead, once I'm there.
Not very busy in my experience (2 visits) it is quite quiet in summer. It is mainly a ski touring hut for the haute route. That said, best to book a few days ahead. Listen carefully to the guardienne's rogue info - she is well informed. Then GC ridge is easy to get off route on...
