If I recall correctly, wasn't the building and use of the Channel Tunnel only deemed viable and secure once we were in the EU?

A quick Google tells me that in 1975 Harold Wilson shelved the idea because of uncertainty about our membership.

Maybe we can sell it to the French, they could then store all migrants in there.
