Hi,

I'm heading down to the Alps in a fortnight. Can anyone recommend a good campsite near Gran Paradiso on the Italian side to serve as a valley base? Can't wait.

Cheers,
Kieran

There is one right at the foot of the path up to GP in Valsavarenche. Not bad but rather exposed.

Further down the valley are a couple of more comfortable ones.

It's a wonderful area.

Don´t know what you mean by Italian side, GP is fully in Italy.

Otherwise +1. The first site next to the parking lot also has a small shop with an excellent selection of local cheeses!

The second one is more protected, but can be a bit shady in cool weather. Make sure to get a pitch at the far end, as the waterfall with drown out all noise from the little bar at the entrance (I always pitched my tent at the uppermost platform).

I think he means on the Italian side of Chamonix, which is where the Alps are.

I love all those dead end valleys that come out of Aosta. Beautiful.

I'm heading down to Pont on Saturday. Is it safe to assume car parking is available before hitting the path for the hut?
