Having done a 100 miler last year and another big ultra coming up soon I am keen that for my next event I have a more "professional" approach top my training.

I am considering a trainer to devise a training programme.

HAs anyone used a trainer, can recommend one?

Cheers

Not personally, but a friend signed up with Paul Giblin's online coaching (multiple WHW winner and record holder, also 5th at Western States this year) for his West Highland Way race this year, he had a great run and following his coaching plan to a tee. A number of guys have been coached by Paul to wins this year, James Stewart at this year's WHW race and David Gow who won Kintyre Way in May (also set a new record).

I'd go with Paul or Robbie.

But there's plenty of good ones around. Martin Cox has had quite a bit of success, in the US David Roche and Ian Sharman are too of the more popular ones at the moment.

I spoke to people but was always self coached but my training was pretty much basic. Run 90-100 miles a week, lots of hard miles, 2 hard sessions a week. Running 12-20 miles at least twice a week if not 3.

Marc Laithwaite is an excellent coach, and is associated with organising the Lakeland 50/100. http://www.theendurancestore.com/pages/personal-coaching
