Despite High Wycombe (a few miles away) being the epicentre of furniture manufacture for decades, I'm struggling to find a supplier of joinery timber that can support modest order sizes at sensible prices.

I'm really not prepared to pay £100/cu ft for pippy oak.

Any suggestions? Happy to go Bucks, Warwickshire or Notts.

I'm actually after some cherry boards just now - about 4m2 of thin (15mm) would be great. But would consider oak, ash or beech. Have a thicknesser, so can plane down if needs be. However, it'd be good to find a decent supplier.

If you're on Facebook, join the "Carpenters & Joiners talk" group, or the "Builders Talk Group", There will be someone on there who can point you in the right direction.
If you aren't too bothered about picking out your own boards then what about ordering a delivery from somewhere like John Boddys in North Yorkshire?
You're always better planing your own timber, cuts the price down massively,I buy American white oak for £23 Cu/ft, a little more for Beech

Thanks. Sadly Boddys went bust about a year ago.

That's a shame! It was probably the best specialist timber merchants in the UK
