Hang on a minute BMC (climb Britain), climb Cymru? Why not have it in one language and then translated?

So, climb Wales or dringo Cymru.

That half and half translation struck me as a little odd too, though it does mean you can have a single (brand) name accessible to and moderately acceptable in both languages, rather than having to have separate versions in each. (Similar to how they've used BMC Cymru/Wales rather than going full on with something like "Cyngor Mynyddwriaeth Prydain - Cymru")

Dumbing down of the world mate simple as that , you only have to pull a sickie at work and watch day time TV to see what they are feeding the brains of our country .....it's a joke just like ...climb Britain , it won't catch on they will always be known as the BMC

I agree that it's awful, a complete bastardisation of both languages. The equivalent would be Dringo Britain. Would English speakers be happy with that? I don't think so ...

Other corporate bodies have the right idea and have the good sense not to mix both languages in their names: "Dwr Cymru - Welsh Water" is always combined on all official publications, with Welsh coming first, http://www.dwrcymru.com/ while Arriva Trains Wales do exactly the same and also call themselves Trenau Arriva Cymru, the Welsh in this case coming after the English name. http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/Home.aspx?langtype=1106 Both of these are acceptable and linguistically correct. There are any number of other such examples.

No, as you rightly say, it should be either Dringo Cymru or Climb Wales, not Climb Cymru. Clearly even less thought went into this name than for Climb Britain.

At best it smacks of ignorance, arrogance and a lack of respect on the part of the BMC. Clearly they haven't bothered to take any advice from official guidance as to the use of the Welsh language in Wales, nor have they done any research as to how other corporate bodies/ companies name themselves in Wales in order to have a culturally and linguistically correct bilingual identity.

This whole catchy get with the programme renaming business - Climb Britain/ Climb Cymru - is just a complete and utter cluster f*ck IMHO; a huge embarrassment.
