Removing mold from the tent inner

Hello,

So I've got a Wild Country Zephyros 1 tent and left it in the bag a little bit to long while it was wet. As a result I've got some mold on the inner tent fabric.

What's the best way to remove this? Just some standard mold remover from the super market?

Thanks,
Neil.

That will be just bleach. I would start by scrubbing the fabric with a brush and some detergent; the mechanical scrubbing action will probably dislodge the mould. There may be permanent discolouration.

Use Milton liquid http://www.boots.com/en/Milton-Sterlising-Fluid-500ml_25418/?cm_mmc=bmm-_-g... from the baby stuff in the supermarket. Dilute with 10 times as much water. Soak the tent in water, then spray on the diluted Milton with a spray bottle. Leave it for a few minutes to change colour and then rinse the tent several times. There may well be a stain still and it may bleach your inner but as long as you kill it and rinse well it should be ok. If it's the inner I guess you don't need to reproof it? Not sure.

That makes sense too. Maybe do that first, then the Milton if needed.

Thanks for the replies, I'll give the brush & detergent a go this week while we've got some good weather. If that fails I'll try the Milton liquid.

Just ignore it - it won't do you any harm.

Milton fluid is bleach.

If you keep the tent dry the mould won't grow any more. You might even be able to brush it away dry with a stiff brush but wear a dust mask.

I'd be inclined to have a go at it with the Henry vac and the stiff carpet brush attachment.

Town centre, residential area or Bromfield industrial estate?

Mold is a fungus! Not so healthy, I prefer the non-smell of MiraZyme instead.

It's not healthy, and it will ruin the tent if allowed to continue growing.

I'm not sure of the dilution for standard household bleach (if it is a standard strength). I know that it is 1 :10 for Milton.

In reply to ElBarto:

Milton or bleach will just bleach the mould. It needs removing mechanically.

Or just ignore it.

In reply to Rigid Raider:

Bleach will kill the mold. If it does not grow any more, the stains can be safely ignored. What I would be more worried about is the bleach destroying the fabric. Cotton is especially sensitive.

I have used a specific fabric mould/mildew remover for a tent inner with reasonable results. It killed off the mildew and smell though did not completely remove staining. I used a McNett Mirazyme product and they do provide good advice here: https://www.mcnett.com/gearaid/blog/how-to-deal-with-mold-mildew-and-tent-o... Can buy on a popular auction site. Also advice on REI https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/caring-tent.html
