My apologies - this another What Camera? request.

My Canon G11 has served me well, but has developed a fault with the lens mechanism which is beyond economic repair. What would be a good replacement? My ideal requirements would be:

- under £400
- image quality at least as good as the G11, but not bothered about RAW format
- not any heavier or bulkier than the G11
- viewfinder
- foldaway screen
- exposure adjustment without needing to use the screen
- panorama function
- relatively easy to point and shoot one-handed with (thin) gloves on

The majority of my use is for hill-walking (including winter) and ski-touring rather than rock-climbing.

Not quite what you're asking, but I got a G16 fixed that had water damage affecting the lens and back screen, by these people: http://1staidrepairs.co.uk/ (who also trade as http://www.digicamfixer.co.uk/) My repairs cost £136, and that included a replacement screen.

If you're really attached to your G11 it might be worth a thought.

Many thanks for the link: my local camera shop quoted me £190 for a new lens which I don't think is really worth it. I wouldn't be averse to a newer model: the G11 has its weaknesses (including a slight lack of sharpness and a tendency to blow highlights) which I won't miss!

I just bought one of these:

The mark 1 version is now around £279. I went for that over the later versions as it doesn't have a touch screen so you can use it with gloves on. Only thing it is missing is a viewfinder and a foldaway screen. I've put a screen protector on my screen to stop it getting scratched. Just used it in the alps climbing and biking and intend to take it ski touring too - really easy to use and takes great photos. Has slightly less zoom than the the G11 by the looks of things but as a bonus it has a 1inch sensor like much more expensive cameras (e.g. Canon G7x and mark IV of the same sony camera), has an easy to use panorama function and you can adjust exposure using the bezel round the lens (I think, I've mostly been using it on auto mode).

Might not fulfill your need for a newer model though....

Panasonic LX100 looks like it would mostly fit the bill - any experiences with it?
