I'm wondering if someone can help me with directions to Crystal Ridge at Coire Sputan Dearg. I'm just trying to sort the location of the climb. The SMC climbing guide indicates that the climb is just left off the main buttress, directly above the person pictured here:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&sourc...

However, the Scottish Rock climbing guide shows that the climb is the buttress further to the left of the Grey Slab:
https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=Cy5GLF68jSsC&pg=PA433&lpg=PA433...

Any ideas? Just wondering if I'm missing something, or if one of the guides is wrong.

Thanks

in the first picture you linked, it's very slightly left of directly above the person - pretty much a quarter of the way across the image. If you click on the image from glencoemountaineer you'll find a good blog piece about it. Lovely route!

Hi, I took the first picture you are linking to. Crystal ridge is between the 2 slanting green grooves on the left of the photo.

cheers,

I think the Scottish rock picture might be wrong but I would need to have a look back home. Vaguely recall realising that on one of my visits. If it is it should be one for correction in the re-print. Once you finish crystal ridge there is a bit of loose scree scrambling to get to the top of the corrie which the first picture shows

I, too, think the Scottish Rock picture is wrong, and that it goes up the buttress to the right of the one it's marked on in in that picture.

The thing we found slightly confusing when we did it (long ago!) was that it was really a slab, rather than a ridge. Good fun, though I remember finding it quite scary in big boots in the damp, and it tops out into some mildly unpleasant terrain.

I'm a bit shocked that you thought the Cairngorms comprehensive guide might be wrong!

If you've got the definitive guide, just take that and you'll have no problems whatsoever!

What Scomuir said. And if you take it with this pic of James Roddie's http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L8AfuYs5Z_8/UelCkXVr9uI/AAAAAAAADsg/e3nxT0cw800/s... then the initial broken bulge followed by the clean left hand wall is obvious in the zoomed out shot as is the broken roof on the right of the buttress to its left.
