I am taking my grandson climbing/scrambling on the cliffs on Anglesey I have suitable helmet harness etc. Proberley top rope from an anchor. Wondering if 8mm 30 metre confidence rope will be ok or should I use my full rope

Is it rated as a half rope?

Single or half ropes are suitable for top-roping (or indeed static rope if used sensibly). Twin ropes are not (unless you use two strands, obviously).

Personally I would probably use the single rope (assuming that's what you mean by 'full rope') assuming it is not a skinny one as it is probably more durable than an 8mm rope but that is just personal preference.

Use a full rope. The 8mm will probably stretch a lot which won't be much for him. (Or, it's 8mm and static, it won't be strong enough.)

It rather depends on what you are planning to toprope. 30m won't give you many options, but there isn't a problem with the strength of a confidence rope for top roping.
