I'm looking at hotels in York for a weekend away in November. I would welcome recommendations.

I'm looking for something fairly luxurious, central location, a pool / spa facilities would be nice, but not essential. Let's assume money no object for now.

Restaurant recommendations also welcome.

In reply to The New NickB: there's a big posh place near the station we stayed at - v luxurious - The Grand Hotel and Spa. Restaurant-wise we like Ate O'Clock. A bit quirky but interesting and changing menu.

Never tried these given I live in York so can't recommend directly but they both sprung to mind as fitting the bill and they're both in nice locations, the latter especially so

I would second the Grand mention. Would also recommend eating in the hotel at least one of your nights.

I've booked at the Grand, so hopefully it will live up to the recommendations. Really liked the look of the Greys Court as well, but that wasn't available on any of the dates I was looking at.

Middlethorp hall is pretty special.

+1 for middletons, lovely place in a great location.

Recently had afternoon tea at the Grand, I can vouch for its swankyness...the tea was 32 spuds a head. I went for just the rarebit at 8 quid, which was spot on, especially for the price/establishment.
