Well if you're having them then I'm nominating the incomparable Tony Ferrino.
"The biggest singing star in the heavens of Portugal's entertainment industry, he is also widely adored across Brazil and Iraq"

Toots Hibbert. An amazing voice that doesn't get the credit it deserves.

How do you turn a duck into a soul singer?

Put it in the microwave until it's bill withers....

That's more like it! Can I suggest an additional couple of undisputed greats: from the blues end of the spectrum, the magnificent Bobby Bland, and the far less celebrated than he ought to be James Carr.

A lot of good voices to mention (some of them already have been), for me possibly Wilson Pickett.

Not a shout for one off the best, but Terrence Trent D'arby is a guy I always thought had a great voice and should have done so much more.

Al Green.
In reply to The Lemming:
Otis for me. Also Percy ledge for 'Warm & Tender Love'. Does anyone here remember listening to Johnny Walker on Radio Caroline when he used to get people to line up on the prom at Frinton and flash their car headlights at the ship at 11pm at which time he dedicated that song to someone who had written in. I loved the pirates.

Wow that's good history
In reply to aln:
At the time I used to record stuff on a reel to reel tape recorder and I recorded the night that Walker defied the government by staying on after the Marine Offences Bill came into force and they became Outlaws. I think he played 'I fought the Law' by Johnny Kidd & the Pirates. I lost the tapes when my folks moved house. Still listen to him on Radio 2.

Marvin Gaye, Gill Scott Heron, Baby Huey.

But for something a bit more recent and odd, the intriguing Jamie Lidell:

And here with Gonzales on piano - if you don't mind a white hipster doing a good impression of a black man, he's ace!

Roger Chapman. (Family etc)
Steve Marriott (Small Faces etc)
The little ginger twunt from Simply Red.
And yes - amazed as I am to agree - Terence Trent D'Arby. Heard his voice on Italian radio last week and instantly recognised it.

No 'likes' and eight 'dislikes' for the OP. Now is that for Paul or George I wonder.....
