Comp is on tonight at 7.15 (not sure if that's UK time or not.)

Michaela did well in qualification getting sixth place ahead of some strong competition. Leah is currently in joint fourth in the semi but will doubtless be bumped down after Megan Mascarenas and Akiyo Noguchi and Janja have a go.

Looks like a weird semi for the women. Lots of tops on P3 but no tops on any other problem.

Cheers for the heads up. Leah made the final!

Very modern setting style.

Well, the gents last problem was all over very quickly. The young lad was like a rat up a drain pipe. Thank goodness the ladies put on more of a show.

Thought that was a really great event. Not so keen on the cheesy 80s rock music but the live act was amazing.

Tomoa's climbing style, especially on that last bloc, is unlike anyone else's in climbing. Wonder if he'll be in the Legends Only comp. Highly impressed by both his and Janja's perfomances. Next year will be interesting when Ashima starts competing.

I think its fantastic that a company like Adidas with its long history of Child Labour abuse has now bought into climbing....

Why is it fantastic?

Fair comment, but I guess if you dig deep enough into any outdoor clothing brand using the far east as a manufacturing base you will find dirt there too. They are just not big enough names to make the headlines.

Anyway back to topic...

Thanks for the reminder. Definitely a shame that big corporations in general are starting to sell more and more climbing gear. Much prefer small, specialist manufacturers, usually created and run by climbers themselves than giant faceless multinationals like Adidas.

I wonder how successful a boycott of such companies amongst the climbing community would be?

Would probably succeed if there was a compelling reason for the boycott.
Objecting to a company simply because it's big doesn't make any sense at all but it's a line that gets trotted out far to often, lumping all 'corporations' and 'multinationals' into the same evil category with little or no apparent thought.

I dont get what Adidas bring to the climbing community at all. They dont sell any climbing gear or climbing clothing so why do they sponsor climbers and host climbing comps?

Didn't addidas buy 5.10?
 lithos 25 Sep 2016
In reply to mcgovern:

dont they own 5.10 ?
 wbo 25 Sep 2016
In reply to mcgovern: because they own 5.10 and they do sell climbing clothing outside the UK

In reply to lithos:

Yeah I just googled it there, they bought 5.10 a few years ago. I dont think a boycott of 5.10 would work...

Well using child labour in their factories would be the reason. But I'm not sure how culpable they are in this particular case. Maybe they don't own the factories and the factories cover up what they're up to? Muppetfilter might know more.

Lots of problems inherent with big corporations, like having the power to put smaller companies out of business for starters, being legally bound to maximize profits for the shareholders - which will likely lead to poorer practices elsewhere.
