After this years local pub ride to the battlefields of Flanders was such an enjoyable success, we are contemplating a '6 countries in 5 days' ride next year. One of the places I'd really like to plan into the route is the Eifel National Park in Germany, just across the border from Liege. Does anyone know of any on line mapping which will help the planning ? In particular, Google Maps is OK but doesn't really make it easy to distinguish roads from bike tracks from paths and Street View (my usual method of checking this sort of thing out) doesn't work for that area. Thanks

Have a look at these:

Strava can also be useful, with a bit of more effort

The open cycle map looks perfect for starters. Many thanks.

If you download the VieiwRanger GPS App (I'm sure other Apps will works as well) you can view on a smartphone Phone (worked on my Android). Also you can pre-download high res tiles onto your phone - but suggest you set the app to store them on micro-SD, not phone memory (if you have a micro-SD).

We used these maps biking in N Spain recently to find trails (along with Google/WikiLoc/Strava), the official 1:25,000 Spanish topo maps were basically useless for biking.

I think once I've decided what are cycleable tracks and what aren't I'll just do the route as a Garmin Course (which is the way we organised ourselves this year - without anyone getting seriously lost!).
