Hey,
I am thinking of goong into the adventure filmmaking industry however i am not sure what the best path after GCSE is. Would sixth form be preferable? Or what college cources would be good??? I am aware of travel and adventure media course at cumbria uni, however i am unsure of what my next step would be. I presume college would be better as it is more specialised? Many thanks, Matt

I would look at something to do with film and television, gain experience in the industry and get contacts!!

2nd plan of action would be to get as many relevant outdoor tickets and experience as possible i.e SPA, MIA, rope access, advance first Aid, RYA powerboat level 2, HSE part 4 Pro Scuba etc etc. I would think you would be self employed to.

Maybe write to a production company asking what's required and if they could take you on as work experience, that could be your foot in the door? If you don't ask, you don't get ; )

College is probs your best best. I did a Diploma in multi media and specialised in filming, editing and sound.

I'm no expert but I have a friend who studied media/film and they were always talking about their portfolio.

Have you considered an apprenticeship at the BBC?

Maybe have a look at these:

Each one has the film makers names, maybe contact and show interest? Even if only one or two responded it could be worth it's weight in gold.

No, but it was 11+ years ago I did the course and I took work outside of my interest(s) to build a portfolio and to pay bills. Got swept up by other life's comitments now but envy someone leaving school and considering this route. Youth, time and experience building up a portfolio with little responsibilty in life might be there greatest advantage.
