Less than four weeks ago, I did a rather good Via Ferrata route for which Lecco _was_ the nearest town. But I had my own VF kit, so I don't know anything more about renting one than I would if I phoned the local tourist office or did a search on google.
I've heard there's several other good VF routes close to Lecco. Seems like a good base for climbing VF - (and considering the quality of the rock I experienced, a good base for rock climbing generally).
Most of the good + great VF routes in Europe are _not_ in the Dolomites.
