Yesterday I heard somebody talking about interval training. I've got some idea as to what it is and that it's mainly intended to enhance a runner's performance.

I'm just wondering if it can be adapted in any way to enhance hill walking performance.

Uphill performance, at least in running, is linked to VO2max rather than muscular strength so I see no reason why interval type training would not help hill walking. You might need to do some running or find some really steep hills to get out of your comfort zone in terms of heart rate to achieve good benefits. However, I am sure someone will come along and just say do hillwalking to get fit for the same!
