I've a friend visiting this weekend and am wondering what mischief we can get up to. We both climb, though him not so much any more, and he's done quite a bit of caving. I'm wondering about doing a trip up Strans gill, which I gather is quite easy and it has been fairly dry recently, and then making it more interesting by coming back down Crook Gill. We'd obviously take a short ab rope for Crook Gill.

I've not done any gill scrambling and I'm just wondering whether going down Crook is too much for this time of year and just a recipe for misery and hypothermia? Any thoughts?

Have only done Strans Gill- in very wet conditions. It was surprisingly tricky for a few moves in walking boots with water pounding down on your head. Don't underestimate how wet and cold you may get.

Btw, I wouldn't be so sure that they won't have a fair bit of water in them. Snow forecast and then it looks wet for Saturday- enjoy !

just seen how hard you climb- should be fine. The cold/wet think stands though..
