Thank God he hasn't had to compromise his principles! Hurrah for the new type of politics!

must be reassuring for union members, such as those from unite, to know that their hard earned subs will be going on lost deposits over the coming years.

Just like Arsenal.

Did you see the turnout? Half what it was last year, even UKIP's vote halved, I'm guessing people thought it was a foregone conclusion and went shopping instead.

No real Brexit protest though, even though people are still bitter about it in other places, I wonder if living in such a pro Brexit environment tempers that protest, compared to other places who were pro EU.

Or that Momentum, has lost it's.

It's been in the offing for months but there does now seem to be a real challenge within Momentum:

Jon Lansman, the founder of Momentum and a close ally of Jeremy Corbyn, has promised to fight for his key role in the grassroots organisation following claims that it has been taken over by Trotskyists and could split.

In a statement to the Guardian, Lansman distanced himself from rumours he could walk away and claimed recent changes to the organisation had disenfranchised many of its thousands of members.

His first comments on the group’s internal crisis come as the activist accused of leading an alleged Trotskyist takeover said Lansman himself had first raised the prospect of a split last month.

AWL spun out of Socialist Organiser, previously banned by Kinnock:

no. Just thinking about Corbyn and I lost my momentum to finish the sentence properly. Although there are some similarities, the dark side luring in new members. Or were all labour party members in yet another constituency really tories just joining for fun.

Didnt he protest against the EU back in the day, sudden change of spine? Almost as bad as Clinton preaching for years against gay marriage only to U turn when it seems like she could be the big cheese and needs the votes.

hasnt compromised principles.

They are politicians mate, they do nothing but change and manipulate their principles. They are cretins of the highest order. I have seen pond life with more spine than politicians.

All as bent as a 9 bob note.

What's the difference between what Momentum want, what AWL want, and what Trotskyists want? Can someone give an example (real or hypothetical) of a policy difference between such groups?

I'm not trolling, just genuinely naive.

Are your referring tge loss of the by election in Lincoln? Did you also post about the win in (memory is going...was last weekr) Oldham West?
 RyanOsborne 09 Dec 2016
In reply to Scarab9:

Not sure about the Oldham west by-election being last week but it is strange how people jump on Corbyn's failures, and completely gloss over his victories.

That's the sort of thing that goes down well in the pub near to closing time but is it true? Well, yes, many politicians fit the bill. But there are lots that, bearing in mind that you've got to appeal to a diverse electorate, are principled.
Obama. Corbyn and McDonnell (much as I disagree with some of the stuff they believe in). Hilary Benn. Jo Cox. Many more. Sometimes the obvious knee-jerk stuff isn't helpful.

Well, luckily for you i'm f*cking bored, so lets have the results for the last few, shall we?

Richmond Park

Liberal Democrat 49.68% +30.41%
Independent/Zac Goldsmith 45.15% -13.06%
Labour 3.67% -8.67%

Witney

Conservative 45.0% -15.2%
Liberal Democrat 30.2% +23.4%
Labour 15.0 % -2.2%

Batley (We can ignore this due to special circumstance)

Labour 85.8%

Tooting

Labour 55.9% +8.7%
Conservative 36.1% -5.8%

Ogmore

Labour 52.6% -0.3%
UKIP 16.2% +1.2%
Plaid Cymru 15.7% +5.6%
Conservative 12.6% -3.3%

Shefield

Labour 62.4% +5.9%
Conservative 5.6% -5.4%

Oldham

Labour 62.1% +7.3%
UKIP 23.4% +2.8%
Conservative 9.4% -9.6%

Now, i'm not political analyst, but it very much looks like:

- Labour won 5 out of 8 times,
- The only by-election that had a change of party was the seat that used to be Tory
- And that for a final score in the acumulated percentage table (just for fun, i know %ages don't just add up) we get:

Labour +10.73
The Conservatives a whopping -52.36

Corbyn don't seem to be doing too bad, May and Cameron on the other hand...

Oops, unless I'm mistaken you may have missed a digit in the year... Yes, Corbyn won a spectacular victory in a Labour heartland in December 201....5. A year ago.

Do keep up,

Yes, percentages don't add up, so those figures are a bit misleading.

The true figures are still pretty good for Jezza though:

Labour +1.8%

Conservative -8.7%

Not really, in fact they are quite damning. Second term of a government which has made some VERY unpopular decisions, Jezza should be double figures ahead of them.
