I took this one of a mate falling off some horrific thing (graded HVS in On Peak Rock, upgraded to E2 5c in Peak Grit East) at Stanage:

Suffice it to say we only had the OPR guide!

fantastic photo - did his gear hold / was he injured???
James Jackson 04 Mar 2004
In reply to The Gnome With No Home:

Gear held fine, no injuries or anything. The guy in the picture belaying also gave it a go a few times, and took a number of falls. I gave it a go as well, and could hardly get off the ground.

That piece of gear wasn't coming out! I don't know how it managed to be so undergraded in On Peak Rock.

I winded myself on that, let me tell you.

That's what comes of trying problems when your tips are split.

Thats on a top rope yes?
If not he was moving at a hell of a speed to get that much rope above him
Woker 04 Mar 2004
In reply to Alan James, ROCKFAX:
that one's a max job isn't it ? I heard that thr rope/climber was drawn in and really the knot was tied.
In reply to Woker:

The original photo was of the same climber perfectly attached and slightly closer to the rock. I erased the rope and moved the climber back a bit. Then I redrew the rope.

I'd actually like to put together a small compilation of shots of people falling off routes to show at a future show of mine. Anyone interested in having their shots included should drop me a line.
Cheers,

In reply to Alan James, ROCKFAX:

i think your pic is one of the most classic and memorable i've seen ever since starting climbing

just sends a clear message like the "clunk clink" for car seat belts

The belayer (Greg Moore) suffered broken ribs from this fall.
Ed Stevens 04 Mar 2004
In reply to James Jackson:

Shit! he had a long one! What damage did he do? Brake his mates arm?
James Jackson 04 Mar 2004
In reply to Edward Frillypants:

Blimey, that looks a bit wild! Do you know how far he fell?
Edward Frillypants 04 Mar 2004
In reply to James Jackson:
Far enough to knock his belayer around a bit!

The photo is at Hanging Rock (Grose Valley, directly north of Blackheath). What you can't really see from the photo is that Hanging Rock sticks right out over the Valley edge. It's 200 metres to the valley floor below their feet.
James Jackson 04 Mar 2004
In reply to Edward Frillypants:

What a British guidebook would call 'A fine exposed position'.

Wow, sounds pretty amazing.
