Two new guides should be on the shelves now for the summer which may help promote a resurgence in popularity on limestone in Northern England.
Northern Limestone - The heavyweight offering from Rockfax is their biggest guide ever with 384 pages and over 2400 routes. It covers crags from Dovedale in the south to Chapel Head in the North.

From Horseshoe to Harpur Hill - The second guide comes from the BMC and is a small book dedicated to the small sport climbing crags and quarries in the Peak District.

Good news at last, Peak limestone needs traffic, routes need cleaning, loose rock needs pulling off, polish needs applying to the Honey Pot routes.
Get out there and check out how rusty those pegs are.

Are they as nice as our local Avon Gorge pegs?

I have to ask why Mettle Nettle has been retro-bolted as it was fine as it was and not exactly bold.

In reply to Bob:

Hi Bob

There has been an effort to tidy up poor routes with a mix of pegs and threads by installing lower offs and bolt runners. Maybe one or two routes have been given the treatment that should have been left alone but I believe that the right balance is being sought.

There is to be another meeting in the autumn to reflect on the work carried out so far and discuss new guidelines for the future.

As for Mettle Nettle I'm sorry to report that the start (the first 10 feet) has collapsed and is not climbable at present, hence the new start!

A condescending comment on the bmc book...a small guide to small crags...are you implying something?

In reply to Bob: Mettle Nettle has not been retro-bolted and I certainly have no plans to do so.

I'm afraid Steve has got his facts wrong on this one. (You can't write a mini-guide after only one visit Steve). The bolts are on a new 6c line between Revived Forty Five and Mettle Nettle.
