In reply to sutty: This ToP 40 'Hit Parade' is a charade. I'm not in the top 40 - probably not in the Top 400 - and yet, I have asked pen-friends in Bulgaria, Poland, Latvia and Yemen to post as 'Marc C' every minute of every hour over the last 2 weeks.

So, where are all these 'overseas' postings of 'mine' going ? How RT can claim with any credibility to be the 'International Mouthpiece of Deskbound and Moribund Climbers' is beyond me, when quite obviously our international brethren are being excluded and marginalised. Incase you think I'm taking it all too seriously: Think. When was the last time anyone from Botswana or even Rutland posted ?

How do you lot manage it? I'm off project at the moment which means I have nothing to do, I spend an unhealthy amount of time on RT and generally add somthing to all the threads I'm interested in, and still I don't make the top ten. Honestly, I thought I was a slacker but you lot...

In reply to Tyler: Stalinist-style 'democracy' my friend. I was chatting with one of the backroom boys of RT in a pub in Lowestoft (where he works as a Life Guard at an Old People's Home) last night, and in an unguarded moment (after a few beers) he let slip that several Top 10 posters have their postings 'weighted' and 'multiplied' according to their political allegiances (e.g. position on the toproping issue, attitudes to bearded climbers, etc.).

He rang me this morning trying to disown what he said (in case I went to the News of the World), but I have it all on tape.

We look forward to seeing you at the clinic in the morning. DON'T try to smuggle any laptops, palmtops, WAP-phones, etc. in with you. The quarantine is for your own good. What happened to the favourite flying insect thread? Did you delete it or was it automatic? I don't particularly want it back, I'm just curious. Is there some house-keeping software that deletes things like that (when it updated the top 40 posters list)?

In reply to Vdiff Dave: I happened to be online late last night, noticed all the duplicated posts and deleted them. When I have a chance I'll look into how it is possible to make duplicated posts, since it is obviously a bug in the system.

Sorry, but while we can delete individual posts, it would have taken a long time to delete over 100 duplicates, rather than just delete the whole thread, so I did that instead.

Yvon Chouinard owned Chouinard Equpment now Black Diamond and also started and owns Patagonia (the clothing company not the region)......he also did sig FA on El Cap and elsewhere....

Royal Robbins was the high priest of "clean climbing" in the USA, after a trip to the UK - also major first ascents on El Cap........the Angel Gabriel to Warren Hardings Lucifer.......

You really must read up on your climbing history Jo if you are to have any sense of who we are and how we got where we are today....

..history makes climbing more fun.....

For example when I onsight every problem on Adam's Rock I want to know who did them first, what they are called and that the problems were major projects for the first ascensionists....it will make my ascents so much sweeter......

Do you remember the original Chouinard catalogue with bits of poetry and sayings in? Seemed to be a limited edition as everyone wanted one but only a few got them.
Probably a better read than a lot of mags.
Met Royal a couple of times, he came down the tans one night. For a small club there were a lot of top lads visited from time to time.
Has your head cleared after the do, sounds like the chat went on all night.

....there where so many greats of USA climbing there last night I thought I better stop at RR and YC....an absolutly brilliant night....climbing all day too....too many beers...Tequila shots ...and mad dancing....I kissed Airlie Anderson...I think her boyfriend punnched me...Heavy Duty from Halifax rummy drunk....and stopped by the cops on the way home.....the Misses Gabriella was driving thank the Lord...kids and the dog had a great time too...
