Living up to the “Safer by Design” philosophy, Metolius have produced the Safe Tech helmet for maximum protection.

Traditionally, helmets have only offered protection from falling objects, despite the fact that 80% of head injuries are sustained by falling. The Safe Tech helmet has been designed to address this issue, by offering extended protection at the sides, back and front of the head.

The full EPS liner maintains thickness around the side of the head, and is then fully covered by a hard ABS shell. The soft cradle design avoids sharp edges against the head, and simple to set buckle design avoids using a bulky thumbwheel adjuster.

Coming Soon - available in the UK in December 2010.

At last it seems climbing helmet manufacturers are waking up to three really important things - - Climbers won't wear them unless they look cool - Not all head injuries are sustained from directly ahead - Helmets need to survive being dropped in the carpark or at the crag. Before I got into climbing I was heavily involved in horse riding / racing. When I was looking for a climbing helmet I was appalled to see how backwards they were in design. That was about 8 years ago. I spent months looking and eventually found a Casin Astral which I was pleased with. I'm pleased to see manufacturers are at last producing more helmets I can wear without feeling concerned. (I've lost two of my best friends through head related injury so this is a very important issue to me)
