Mount Asgard Smock
UKC Gear, Mar 2011
© Berghaus A new 'bespoke team' at Berghaus have been specifically briefed to design and develop products that push the boundaries of innovation. Rather than being bound by season or category, the team can take as long as they need, working with the brand's sponsored athletes to produce equipment and kit that pushes the limits of what's possible in outdoor product development. The first collection of 'MtnHaus' products has just been launched for Spring/Summer 11.
Multiple prototypes were made and then tested by the likes of Leo Houlding, Mountain Tracks ( Chamonix-based mountain guiding company) and Team Orion (world champion adventure racing team). The resulting collection comprises five technical products, sitting in two product ranges, including the following:
The Mount Asgard Smock in Extrem (£220) was developed with Leo Houlding over an exhaustive 18 month period and has been tested by Leo to its limit. The featherweight waterproof and breathable piece is an emergency outer 'shell' for climbers, and its feature set includes a new hood construction that allows the wearer to easily adjust it to best fit their head using just one hand and while still on the move. Made out of the lightest possible 3L Gore-tex Pro Shell with micro-grid backer technology, the Asgard Smock weighs in at 289g.
The Octans 40 (£80) in Trail Sports is an adventure racing pack, inspired by world champions Team Orion, which they agree delivers no compromise and no shortcuts. It's made from a tough, lightweight fabric and features a clip opening system, an elasticated stability hipbelt and height adjustable chest strap for improved comfort and carry.
Finally, the legendary Yeti Gaiter (£90) has been re-born for the 21st Century. The original Yeti is a product that, during more than 30 years, helped establish Berghaus' reputation for innovation. The new Yeti Extrem Pro is the end product of a long labour of love by the MtnHaus Team. The new Yeti features a new and improved rubber rand, hidden single pull tension adjustment and a large front storm flap. It is a real step forward for one of Berghaus' most famous outdoor performance products.
All of the MtnHaus products are available from specialist outdoor retailers now.
