Shauna has been climbing since the age of four and, perhaps unusually for a climber of her talent, her family do not climb – instead she took her initial inspiration from Catherine Destiville. Sitting on her father's knee at only three years old she quickly became totally fascinated by the sport. At first climbing became a hobby but it quickly moved to becoming Shauna's sport, passion and life. Shauna's dream and ambition is to become a professional climber, something she's well on the way to achieving! Wanting to push herself as far as possible in both competitions and on rock, she has dedicated her life to the sport, training for the World Cup circuit and outdoor climbing.

Shauna's noteable acheivements:

  • 2012 Overall World Bouldering Cup Ranking 3rd Place
  • 2012 British Lead Climbing Championships 1st
  • 2012 British Bouldering Championships 1st

Shauna also recently joined the BMC and fellow Lyon team member and GB captain Molly-Thompson Smith at the Westway in London to help promote climbing to the wider media as part of the efforts to promote climbing as a future Olympic sport.

Steve McClure, Lyon's Team Manager caught up with Shauna for a quick chat:

Steve: Are you planning on getting more into routes in the near future?
Shauna: I am hoping to spend a significant amount of time route climbing towards the end of the year. I think it will be nice to focus on a different aspect of the sport after the bouldering world cup season. I feel like I have so much progress to make in route climbing and I am excited to push myself.

Steve: Are there any particular routes you would like to conquer?
Shauna: Nothing in particular but I would like to spend some time in Spain as I think the rock is amazing over there.

Steve: Do you think route fitness is essential for boulder competitions these days?
Shauna You definitely need fitness. I found this was one of my major weaknesses last year. I think that route climbing helps you to gain fitness but you definitely need more than fitness.

Steve: What inspired you to look for support from Petzl and Beal?
Shauna: I wanted gear that I knew was going to be good quality and after talking to friends Petzl and Beal seemed an obvious choice.

Steve: What are you looking forward to the most working with Lyon/Petzl/Beal?
Shauna: I am looking forward to having the time to get out climbing more and trying out the gear.

Steve: Beal are mainly known for their ropes but they also have an extensive range of bouldering kit. How are you getting on with the bouldering range?
Shauna: I have just started using the Beal Triple Air Pad. I like having a big pad and this one is awesome because it is light and has a waist strap, massively essential for long walk ins.
