There are hundreds of film screenings guaranteed to make you laugh, squirm, cry and leave you with sweaty palms. Not to mention a host of speaks including Tommy Caldwell, Ben Moon and Sir Chris Bonington.

One of the festival's greatest strengths, is the diversity of the programme that they have put together. Below, we've showcased some trailers for films we're looking forward to the most. Warning: They are not all climbing films...

The Perfect Man

From his Bolivian mountaintop, Asser works with humanitarian projects with his girlfriend Ida. When he's not working, he runs 40 kilometres in the Bolivian dessert to become Denmark's best marathon runner. Asser is a man trying to hide himself behind social and humanitarian work, but who in reality uses the work as a recovery process to reach his own selfish goals. Is it possible to combine the love of another person with your own personal ambitions, when you strive to be the best? Director Kasper Kiertzner and cinematographer Jonas Müller follow Asser's life in Bolivia.

TOM

Tom Ballard lives with his father James in a campsite in the Dolomites. Tom's mother, Alison Hargreaves died descending K2 when he was just 6 years old. Despite this, he never wanted to be anywhere other than in the mountains. His whole life is dedicated to climbing and his last goal is to solo the Six North Faces of the Alps in a single winter season.  Nobody has achieved this before, and he wants to be the first.  In a white van driven by James, Tom will travel through the Alps to make his dream come true. Directed by Angel Esteban and Elena Goatelli.

A Line Across the Sky

The Fitz Roy Traverse is one of the most sought after achievements in modern alpinism: a horrendous journey across seven jagged summits and 13,000 vertical feet of climbing. Join Tommy Caldwell and Alex Honnold on the inspiring - and at times hilarious - quest that earned the Piolet D'or. Directed by Josh Lowell and Peter Mortimer.

Touching the Sky

In 1986, several dozen mountain climbers from all over the world met at K2 to be the first via the - back then - unclimbed Southwest Pillar. This summer became known as the Black Summer, after 13 alpinists were left dead. Eliza Kubarska, director of the film and an alpinist herself, sets out on an expedition to K2 to face the past and to understand the force that once seduced their parents and eventually killed them. An emotional journey set against breathtaking views of Karakorum.

Transition

Featuring UKClimbing's very own Natalie Berry. Follow one of the UKs top female competition and sport climbers, as she takes up trad and winter climbing, with Dave Macleod as her mentor and guide.

Operation Moffat

Operation Moffat takes inspiration and wit from the colourful climbing life of Britian's First Female Mountain Guide Gwen Moffat. Writer Claire Carter and Filmmaker Jen Randall scramble, swim and barefoot climb through Gwen's most cherished British landscapes, grappling with her preference for mountains over people, adventure over security, wilderness over tick lists. With new take on landscape photography, archive footage and action sequences this is a film rooted in a real love of wild places.
