The Climbing Hangar believes in the benefits of creating a facility for people of different abilities to play together. We design shared activity spaces so that families, couples and friends, can get involved, side by side, but at the right level of challenge for everyone. We are convinced of the value of doing things together that are challenging but fun and create experiences to share and retell.

Our events bring new climbers under the supervision of champions and we promote a self-taught, knowledge sharing community in all that we do. We promote positive practices and self-esteem in our teaching of climbing and aim to get everyone involved in our community events .

We use a motivated and empowered staff team to nurture our diverse community. We believe people are our business in every sense and are aiming to become a model employer.

This is where you come in. We have just opened a second facility and it needs a manager. Being a climber is not essential, but being an experienced leader is.

Essential experience of: Management and leaderships of teams, managing business growth, marketing and promotions, data led strategy and decision making.

Hours: up to 40 hours per week* (compressed and flexible hours available)

1 year contract with a view to becoming permanent based on success

Salary: £25 – 35,000 pro rata* depending on experience
*We are happy to employ on a FT, 0.75 or 0.5 contract if that helps us find the right person

What is the job?

  • As facility manager you will be responsible for managing and growing The Climbing Hangar London. This makes you responsible for:
  • Leading, inspiring and managing your team
  • Delivering the highest standards of customer service
  • Managing the safe and efficient operation of the centre
  • Managing and promoting a dynamic & exciting program of coaching and climbing events
  • Growing the business and diversifying revenue streams
  • Managing all aspects of Health and Safety
  • Marketing and Promotions


How do you want you work?

We are all about finding the right match between the needs of the business and the person. Full time, 0.75 or 0.5, flexible or compressed hours. We want the job to be flexible where it can so you can deliver when it counts and maintain a work life balance that will keep you motivated and in the role for longer and happier. It is a leisure business however, so will involve some evenings and three weekend days per month for at least six months.

Bonuses will be calculated as a percentage of growth over the previous quarter.


Primary Objectives

  • Design and implement a business growth and staff development strategy that is subject to quarterly review. The review will be based on agreed metrics.

 

The strategy must focus on:

  • A happy, well led, well trained, highly motivated and autonomous team. You must be effective in making sure everyone in your core team is responsible for delivering on an aspect of centre performance and review this with them.
  • Delivery of a phenomenal climbing experience and product to all levels of user through a global approach to excellent customer service
  • A monthly events strategy aimed at defined customer personas
  • Soft sales promotions to drive up memberships, subscriptions and up selling (staff training need) to achieve income targets
  • Consistent and effective digital and area based marketing
  • Creation of income through contracts
  • Management of the centre budget and utilisation of the centre to exploit untapped operational leverage
  • Provide monthly management information to the Managing Director as well as net promoter scores from customers and other more detailed customer feedback sources.
  • Responsible for all aspects of health and safety including maintenance and fault reporting, data protection, safeguarding, security and effective delivery of operational programming within the climbing department.Other duties commensurate with your role
