Trekitt - Snowdonia Traverse Challenge Press Release

© Trekitt/Contour Outdoors

The STC is an exciting new Challenge that is geared to promote healthy competition amongst teams of mountain lovers whilst hopefully inspiring some “fresh blood” into the outdoor world. With plenty of fun to be had and memories to be made along the way, the STC, unlike other mountain challenges is aimed at taking you to parts of the Snowdonia National Park that are less used but by no means less beautiful. It may even take you to areas you have not yet seen, and encourage you to take routes you have never tried or even thought of doing. You can do this for fun or for charity; we will leave it up to you.

So to give you the opportunity to get all the information you require trekitt is holding a special presentation evening which will be held at the Trekitt shop in Hereford (aka S.T.C HQ) on 25th February at 18:30hrs.

Bob from Contour Outdoor will be presenting a talk outlining the challenge and will answer any of your questions, the lovely Trekitt staff will be on hand to talk to you about the recommended kit. Please feel free to bring your whole team along and there will be registration forms and information packs available.

The post code for the shop is HR4 0AB and the nearest parking is shown below. Hereford has a railway station and the shop is about a 15 walk across town from there.

The nearest car park is at the rear of the shop on West Street HR4 0BX, this is a pay and display car park and charges apply until 22:00hrs. The car park code for phone parking is 85991.
Alternatively you can get 2 hours free in the Tesco car park on Bewel Street HR4 0BW.

Please RSVP to stc@trekitt.co.uk so we can organise seating and refreshments.

What does the STC involve

In groups of no less than 2 and no more than 4, you will be starting your adventure at the Cwm Eigiau Car Park (SH 731 663) and finish up at the top of Mynydd Mawr (SH 539 546). Your goal is to do this as quickly as possible, using best mountaineering practices and tick-off all the associated checkpoints within each route.

There will be 4 different “Zones” and in each “Zone” there will be different walking or scrambling/climbing options that will either have a time reward or a time penalty attached to them. This is to encourage a bit of thinking and planning on your part, whilst allowing you and the challenge to be more dynamic. We all know the weather is a big factor when it comes to decision making outdoors and that your safety is paramount.

The beauty of the STC is that once your group has received its information pack, you can submit as many attempts as you like until the the closing date which will be midnight on August 31st 2016. We will provide recommended routes within the Information Pack that follow certain paths but these are only recommendations and if you know a quicker route by all mean feel free to take it. The minimum requirement for qualification of completion is as follows:

  • Tick-off the required checkpoints on each route.
  • Photographic evidence of the grid reference (min 6 fig.) simply take a photo of your GPS screen.
  • Photographic evidence that the whole group was actually there; take a nice selfie.

(If you do not own a GPS between you, then you are able to hire one from Trekitt; a £100 deposit is required and your deposit will be refunded in full on return of the unit.)

You will receive a full copy of the rules and routes in the information pack.

Remember: The mountains will always be there tomorrow! Do not risk your personal safety for the purpose of any route or challenge.

In taking part in the STC you understand that mountain activities are potentially dangerous and that you are personally responsible for your own actions.

It is recommended that all participant be a member of The British Mountaineering Council.
