Lancaster Climbing Wall Lancaster University Sports Centre have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and qualified Climbing Wall Instructor to join their team

Title: Climbing Wall Instructor

Pay: £12.89 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

Type: Part-time, Casual

Hours: 8-16 hours per week (1-2 shifts) *Inc. evenings and weekends

Lancaster University Sports Centre 8.5m Climbing Wall was designed with contribution from renowned mountaineer and University Chancellor Sir Christian Bonington, and features 17 belay lines, Bouldering Cave and teaching wall. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with the area's leading facilities.

Duties:

  • Supervise the climbing wall and bouldering cave areas.
  • Carry out induction training and specific classes and workshops – to include NICAS, schools, local organisations and holiday camps.
  • Advise on climbing techniques, movement styles and etiquette.
  • Assist in route setting and maintenance as required.
  • Responsible for maintaining the professional appearance and cleanliness of the climbing wall.
  • Make regular checks to the wall, equipment and PPE to ensure that it is safe to use. Report any faults immediately the full time Climbing Instructor or Duty Manager.
  • Ensure health and safety procedures and policies are adhered to.
  • Provide security through observation of customers entering and leaving the building. Check membership cards and challenge unauthorized entrance to prevent inappropriate use of the facility.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings when required.
  • Respond to emergency situations and carry out first aid as required.
  • Ensure excellent customer service at all times.


Lancaster Climbing Wall Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Climbing Wall Leading Award or higher
  • Good understanding of health and safety issues relating to climbing walls
  • Able to use appropriate climbing equipment and identify safety issues with such equipment
  • Organisational, written and computer skills
  • Excellent communication/ customer care skills
  • Flexible, proactive and enthusiastic work approach
  • Experience of/appreciative of a multi-cultural environment


Desirable:

  • Route setting experience
  • Current member of Mountain Training Association or Association of Mountaineering Instructors
